Lukuvuoden 2025–2026 paras maantieteen maisterintutkielma julkistetaan Maantieteen päivillä Vaasassa 29.-30.10.2026.

Ehdotuksia vastaanotetaan tutkielman tekijöiltä, heidän ohjaajiltaan. Tutkielman tulee olla valmistunut lukuvuoden 2025–2026 aikana  (1.8.2025–31.7.2026). Kilpailuehdotukset tulee toimittaa sähköpostitse seuran toiminnanjohtajalle  (info@geography.fi) viimeistään 18.10.2026. Ehdolle asetettavista töistä pyydetään lähettämään joko tutkielmadokumentti itsessään tai julkinen linkki tutkielmaan sekä enintään sivun mittainen perustelu sisältäen työn lyhyen kuvauksen, keskeiset tieteelliset ja muut ansiot. Valinnan tekee Suomen Maantieteellisen Seuran hallitus.

Valinnassa painotetaan työn tieteellistä ja yhteiskunnallista merkittävyyttä, maantieteellistä näkökulmaa sekä sen merkitystä suomalaiselle maantieteelle. Lisäksi arvioidaan työn oivaltavuutta, omaleimaisuutta ja kunnianhimoisuutta sekä siinä osoitettua valmiutta itsenäiseen tieteelliseen työskentelyyn.

Edellä mainittujen periaatteiden ohella palkinnon myöntämisessä voidaan painottaa tutkimusryhmässä toteutettujen ja itsenäisesti työstettyjen tutkielmien sekä alueellista tasapainoa. Lisätietoja sähköpostitse info@geography.fi

The best Master’s thesis in Geography for the 2025–2026 academic year will be announced at the Geography Days in Vaasa on 29–30 October 2026.

Entries may be submitted by the authors of the theses or their supervisors. The thesis must have been completed during the 2025–2026 academic year (1 August 2025–31 July 2026). Entries must be submitted by email to the Society’s Executive Director (info@geography.fi) by 18 October 2026 at the latest. For works being submitted for consideration, please send either the thesis document itself or a public link to the thesis, along with a justification of no more than one page in length, including a brief description of the work and its key academic and other merits. The selection will be made by the Board of the Finnish Geographical Society.

The selection process will emphasise the scientific and societal significance of the work, its geographical perspective, and its importance to Finnish geography. In addition, the work’s insightfulness, originality and ambition will be assessed, as well as the readiness for independent scientific work demonstrated by the thesis.
